Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzón and Judge Carmen Argibay of the Argentine Supreme Court, are amongst the national and international experts, addressing the need to include gender-based crimes in trials currently taking place in Argentina. The experts will be sharing their views with both Argentine judges and prosecutors to ensure that those responsible for crimes against humanity committed during the last military dictatorship are held fully accountable. On the 9th and 10th of August, in the city of Buenos Aires, Women´s Link Worldwide, the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) and the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) will host the seminar ´Reflections on International Criminal Law and Gender in prosecutions for human rights violations committed during the last dictatorship in Argentina´.

Bogotá, July 30, 2010. In its recommendations to Colombia,the UN Human Rights Committee congratulates the Constitutional Court for having decriminalized abortion and expressed its concern because health services providers are refusing to provide legal abortions and that the Procurador General is failing to support the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court on this issue. In addition, the Committee expressed its concern over the insufficient sexual education in the school curriculum and lack of information for the public on how to access a legal abortion, which are causing the loss of lives of women who have resorted to unsafe abortions.

On July 15th, Women’s Link Worldwide will denounce in Geneva, before the UN Human Rights Committee, the actions of Colombia's Procurador General, Alejandro Ordoñez, as they violate the country's international obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The information presented to the Committee is part of the shadow report prepared by Women’s Link in collaboration with Colombian organizations CODHES, Humanas, LIMPAL and Taller de Vida under the general coordination of U.S.-based, international organization, MADRE. May 27, 2010. The last time that the mother of 10-year-old Patricia saw her daughter was on August 27, 1999 at 8:30 am when she dropped her at the public school where the girl attended the third grade in downtown La Paz. Four days after the disappearance, the body of the girl was found in a warehouse inside the school. The body showed severe signs of rape and torture. Given the complete inefficiency of the Government to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators, Women's Link Worldwide and Funderes filed a complaint before the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights. Women's Link files amicus brief before the Interamerican Court in case of homicide of women in Ciudad Juárez »
On April 27, 2009, Women's Link filed an amicus brief before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in the case known as "Campo Algodonero", involving the dissapearance and homicide of three women (two of them minors) in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. The document analyzes how these assassinations are part of a pattern of systematic gender violence and discrimination against women, currently taking place in Mexico. (in Spanish only)

En sus recomendaciones al Estado Colombiano, el Comité de Derechos Humanos felicita a la Corte Constitucional por haber legalizado el aborto y expresa preocupación porque los proveedores de servicios de salud se niegan a proporcionar abortos legales y porque el Procurador General de la Nación no apoya la aplicación de la sentencia de la Corte Constitucional en esta materia. Asimismo, al Comité le preocupa que la insuficiente educación sexual en el curriculum escolar, y de información pública sobre como acceder a un aborto legal, sigue causando la perdida de la vida para mujeres que han recurrido a abortos inseguros.

El Comité de Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas, órgano encargado de verificar que los gobiernos cumplan con sus obligaciones bajo el Pacto Internacional de Derechos Civiles y Políticos, cuestionó hoy en Ginebra la falta de respuesta del gobierno Colombiano en relación con las actuaciones del Procurador General en contra del derecho a abortar que tienen las mujeres colombianas a partir de la sentencia de la Corte Constitucional, expedida en 2006.

El pasado 27 de abril, Women's Link presentó un amicus curiae ante la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, en el caso "Campo Algodonero", que se refiere a la denegación de justicia por la desaparición y el homicidio de tres mujeres (dos de ellas menores) en Ciudad Juárez, México. El documento analiza cómo estos asesinatos forman parte de un patrón sistemático de violencia y discriminación por género que se produce en México contra las mujeres.
