Some legal systems allow challenges against legal norms without demonstrating a specific violation of particular rights or interests. The court's decision can be erga omnes, which means that it's binding on all institutions. Bringing a lawsuit in the abstract has certain advantages such as not having to identify "the perfect case" to demonstrate the multiple ways in which the norm in question violates constitutional rights. (A perfect case is a case that presents all the necessary characteristics – facts and the existing evidence – to demonstrate the way in which a norm violates constitutional rights.) This strategy doesn't present the ethical and practical concerns of representing the interests of a particular person or group and requiring that they "lend" their story to the furthering of a cause.
Algunos sistemas legales autorizan las demandas contra normas jurídicas sin tener que demostrar violaciones concretas de derechos o intereses particulares. La decisión resultado de este tipo de demandas puede tener efectos erga omnes, es decir que es obligatoria para todas las instituciones. Presentar una demanda en abstracto presenta ciertas ventajas como no tener que identificar "el caso perfecto" (es decir aquel que reúne todas las características necesarias (tanto respecto de los hechos como de la evidencia existente) para demostrar la forma en que la norma viola los derechos constitucionales), para demostrar las diferentes formas en que la norma legal en cuestión viola los derechos constitucionales. Así mismo, este tipo de litigio no presenta las preocupaciones éticas y prácticas de representar los intereses de una persona o un grupo particular y requerirles que "presten" su historia para la causa.
