María Cecilia has worked as an assistant lawyer at Manuel José Cepeda Espinosa’s law office and a project analyst and research assistant at the Center for Socio-Legal Research (CIJUS) of the University of the Andes. Before joining Women’s Link, she was an advisor to the International Legal Defense team of Colombia’s National Agency for Legal Defense of the State. She has taught as an adjunct lecturer on the Inter-American System for the protection of human rights and the universal human rights system, and as an assistant lecturer on public international law.

María Cecilia holds a law degree from the University of the Andes. In 2017, she obtained her Advanced Master of Laws in European and International Human Rights Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands, graduating cum laude and writing a thesis entitled “Enhancing the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking in the Americas: Lessons from the Council of Europe.”
